iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey: these features are still missing
Even before the release of iOS and iPadOS 15, it was clear: Apple would not be able to get all the features of its new operating systems promised at the WWDC 2021 conference in time. As for iOS, with iOS 15.1, Shareplay mode and an improved macro feature for the iPhone 13 Pro are already available. iOS, iPadOS and macOS users are waiting for the following features.
App data protection report will only appear in iOS 15.2
Announced at WWDC 2021, the so-called app data protection report will apparently appear in iOS 15.2, among other features, which should give users more control over the apps they use. The option shows weekly reports detailing which apps have accessed data and sensors.
Apple will also provide an option for real estate contacts, introduced in June, which is also part of iOS 15.2. In the Settings app in the Apple ID area, you can set up a contact in the Password and Security section.
Private relay in iOS 15 is beta only for now
Apple’s private relay feature has been available since iOS 15, but the manufacturer has given it a beta version for now. This means that the feature isn’t quite ready yet.
The feature is supposed to help surfers route traffic through multiple proxies to hide the source. For example, sites can’t identify your exact location. In addition, Apple claims that the data being transmitted is encrypted.
iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey: no sign of Universal Control
The new Universal Control feature that allows macOS Monterey and iPadOS 15 to interact is not yet available. Users can operate the mouse and keyboard and easily switch between Mac and iPad without even configuring the feature.
It’s also possible to move content between Monterey and iPadOS 15 devices and back again with what’s known as a simple manual drag and drop. According to Apple, the release is still due in the autumn. By the end of November, however, there was no sign of a presentation.
Other missing features
Apple has promised other features that are not yet available, but are now less relevant to the European market: these include the integration of ID cards and driving licences into the Apple Wallet and detailed 3D navigation in Carplay. Both features will initially launch for the US market.
As Apple recently announced, US users will have to wait a bit for the wallet feature to launch. The digital ID and driver’s licence feature probably won’t be available until next year.
